America's Cup: AC36 logo, date of the match, five racing areas, and more detailed at today's 'AC36 Overture' in Cowes, Isle of Wight (GBR) sponsored by Prada

Friday, August 31, 2018

COWES, IOW (#1093) – The 36th America's Cup Match will begin on March 6, 2021 in the Hauraki Gulf off Auckland, NZL, Grant Dalton, ETNZ CEO, announced today at the first official gathering of the AC36 community, media and other VIPs. He also detailed fully five possible race areas – A through E – off Auckland, each close to shore and one actually in Auckland Harbor.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was that racing will start late in the afternoon, at 16:00 (4pm) NZT. This, Mr Dalton said, to avoid a conflict that sometimes occurs between the common summer seabreeze directions earlier in the day.
