Forbes: Priceless America's Cup yachts put on a show off Newport, RI

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

NEWPORT, RI – "That was one of the very coolest sailboat races I have ever been in my entire life," said Ken Read, President of North Sails and one of Newport Rhode Island’s most famous sailors. "Honestly, it had everything. Home town. Gybing and tacking around all the little nooks and crannies, such a great crowd of boats out there watching. That is what we always hoped this regatta would show, how special this can be. And I am sure it did just that. Read was talking about yesterday’s opening race of the inaugural J Class World Championship that took place off Newport, Rhode Island and used many of the historical local landmarks that were made famous over the dozen editions of the America's Cup that were raced here when the New York Yacht Club were holders of the Cup for 132 years. And he was the skipper of Jim and Christy Clark’s HANUMAN that stole the show on opening day of the first-ever J-Class World Championship.  –Bill Springer, writing for the Forbes magazine website, today. Springer is the Editor-in-Chief of Ocean Home magazine where he covers ultra-exclusive real estate, superyachts, and luxury travel. Full story.
