AC35: Day 1, Race 4 – GBR leads from horn to horn, stunning SWE and the pundits who had written off Ben Ainslie

Saturday, May 27, 2017

DOES LAND ROVER BAR HAVE A SPEED PROBLEM? Not in their race today against Nathan Outteridge and his Artemis Racing team. They led comfortably from start to finish, by as much as 19 seconds, though the Swedes closed it up at the end of the second run just before the gate. Delta at the finish was 11 seconds. There was a bit of banter between the Brit lead announced and American Ken Read, about whether LRBAR had been sandbagging in the pre-regatta practice racing over the past several weeks. As SAILING ILLUSTRATED has been saying for the past week, never, ever, count out the most decorated Olympic sailor of all time, Sir Ben Ainslie (GBR). Now if he can only stop bumping into things.
