Helly Hansen NOOD: Day one blown out in Naptown
TODAY'S RACING for the Helly Hansen National Offshore One Design (NOOD) Regatta in Annapolis was called off even before noon rolled around: "Friday, May 5, 11:33 a.m. – No racing today, party at 3:00. The Race Committee has just replaced AP, with AP over A, signaling no racing today. Forecast is showing breeze to build again after this lull. We see better conditions for tomorrow and Sunday. The good news is we will open the party tent at 3:00. Mount Gay and Uinta will be flowing. Party is now 3:00-4:30 - see you soon."
No surprise as there was plenty of breeze blowing from the SE, so a long fetch up Chesapeake Bay making for unusually rough conditions.
Racing is scheduled to begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. and conclude Sunday, May 7.
According to Sailing World, the Helly Hansen NOOD Regatta in Annapolis highlights the largest turnout in several years, with 220 teams registered to compete in 16 classes. In addition to one-design racing, 10 boats will participate in the North Sails Rally on Saturday, a race designed to give local crews on boats of any size the opportunity to participate in a single, day-long race.
