AC36: Photo and video of Emirates Team New Zealand capsizing their AC75 while training today (Thursday in NZ)

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO (#1243) — Here's the first AC75 capsize, at least the first one captured on camera that went public. Photo courtesy of ETNZ. Video from a friend. ETNZ say they righted the boat and continued training. Remember, too, that they are missing two of their regular crew — Josh Junior and Andy Maloney — who are racing (and well) in the Finn Gold Cup in Melbourne.

It will be interesting to see video of how the boat was righted. I have such video on promise. When the design was introduced, the AC75 was advertised as self-righting. Did it right itself today?

Was the cause human error? Flight control system or other breakdown? More on Friday's TFE LIVE.
