CHARLESTON, SC – Just when you thought it was safe to move on and focus on the America's Cup and other major news in our sport today, we have just learned that our longtime friend and Hilton Head Island resident Tom Webster, whom I call the "Dean of Yachting in the USA's Southeast," has been forced to evacuate from the island along with hundreds of others, and that downtown Charleston has been overwhelmed by "incredible" flooding. Full story just posted by Charleston's Post and Courier here.

This amazing photo taken this afternoon is from our Facebook friend Corinne Durocher, a member of the sailing team at the College of Charleston. She is sitting at the historic Colonial Lake, a tidal pond in Charleston with wide walkways around it that is used as a park. It acquired the name Colonial Lake in 1881, in honor of the "Colonial Commons" established in 1768. Like your Ed. Corinne hails from Michigan, LaSalle to be precise, and sails out of North Cape Yacht Club on the western end of Lake Erie at Monroe, MI.
