Bernie Wilson: Kiwis beat British to reach America's Cup challenger finals

Thursday, June 8, 2017

QUOTE-UNQUOTE: As [Ben] Ainslie steered his boat across the line, he commended the crew for its best day. The Kiwis capsized at the start of a race Tuesday, seriously damaging the boat and costing them a point in the standings. The Kiwis said they would have been ready for racing Wednesday, but got a break when high winds postponed racing until Thursday. Ainslie hoped to become the first Englishman to hoist the Auld Mug in victory. The British have been trying for 166 years to win back the silver trophy they lost to the schooner AMERICA in 1851, and they'll have to wait at least two more years to try again. –The AP's Bernie Wilson, from his usual excellent race-day report.
