The 20-minute grind

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

GRINDING BACK-TO-BACK TACKS, taking the runners up to max load or grinding the mainsheet in around the bottom mark – none of this standard big boat exertion is fun. But grinding for 20 minutes straight? In this grueling challenge, ORACLE TEAM USA crewman Louis Sinclair powers through every minute with his team cheering him on in the background. The marathon training is to help prepare four of the team's six crew for the continuous grinding required to power the AC50's winch and hydraulic systems. Put down the Twinkie and read Red Bull's great article on what it takes to be Mr. Sinclair.
